Honoring Those Who Gave Us Life
Dear Ones,
This time is considered sacred, known as Samhain, Dia de los Muertos, All Saints Day, The Day of the Dead, and Halloween, to name a few. It is a time when we can access our ancestors, those who came before us, to commune, connect, heal, and seek guidance.
Our dear friend Mondhoro Mandaza Kandemwa, a Medicine Man from Zimbabwe, would ask, “Who are the ones we call Ancestors?”.
In Sacred Messengers of Shamanic Africa, I share that “Ancestors guide us as we walk our life path, and if we listen to their guidance while at the same time as we listen to our inner knowing, we can access our soul purpose.”
Most of us think of our family, grandfathers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and grandfathers, and on and on. A post on FB states that for you to be born today, you needed a total of 4,094 ancestors over the last 400 years. A reminder to think for a moment about how much they had to persevere to bring you into existence. They truly were pioneers stalking the future through their trials and tribulations, successes, and sacrifices.
Yes, we continue to strive to do better than they did, learning from their lessons. Yet we also unwittingly carry their stories, perceptions shaped by the adaptations and interpretations of events in their lives. Thus, the lens from which we see life is often only a tiny piece of the pie of reality.
We also have ancient Ancestors, whom we rarely acknowledge, who are here to support us and us them. These ancestors include the stars and the earth, rocks, trees, plants, fossils, animals, microorganisms, and more. The natural world is a part of us; thus, they are our relatives.
Our Ancestors can assist us if we choose to connect and ask them for guidance. With their assistance, we can work to bring to consciousness the trauma and shame from the secrets of our past, which led our lineage to go askew.
First and foremost, we can thank our Ancestors for giving us life! Then, we can ask our Ancestors for guidance as we tap into our inner knowing. With this adjustment in our field, we can more easily navigate our lives and live from a place of truth, love, and light. We also help our Ancestors, as when we heal, we heal seven generations before and after us. We heal the world.
Much Love,
Carley and John
