The Eye of the Storm

Dear Ones,

We find ourselves in turbulent times. The world as we know it is undergoing a fiery transformation. Much of what we see in the news does not align with our internal moral compass.

We may feel out of control, demoralized, or paralyzed in our ability to act in ways that reflect our truth of showing love, compassion, and respect for others.

These shocking events leave us stunned, as most of us have never experienced this before.

Many of us have, however, been traumatized in our families through emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, often passed down through a lineage of trauma.

As we watch the news and learn about actions that affect the well-being and security of our friends, loved ones, and nation, we may feel re-triggered by the loss of control and experience chaos in our bodies' reactions to these events. These symptoms can range from panic, anger, numbness, dissociation, or regression.

We, however, are adults now and can find that still place inside of us, “the eye of the storm,” to breathe deeply and resettle ourselves in the present moment. We can take stock of our environment to know that we are safe now. We can reach out to friends, family or a therapist.

We can remember that a larger perspective is unfolding. Indigenous peoples, spiritual visionaries, and others have predicted these times of significant change. The Tibetan prophecies foretold that in the 20th and 21st centuries, the world would be infused with a new paradigm of warrior energy capable of grasping the broader perspective, recognizing that we are in the fires of transformation; what we see around us is part of a breakdown.

It will break down to break through. We are called to bring loving compassion as we navigate this time together within our communities, to stand together as agents of change. We are all in this together.

We come from a lineage of ancestors who faced immense challenges. These old ones live in us, offering us counsel, resources, and guidance as we, too, face challenges. They remind us of our resilience, strength, and determination to hold a vision for a heart-centered world in thought and action.

The eye of the storm is the place within our hearts that guides us as we chop wood and carry water through right action, remembering that the hurricane is swirling around the perimeter, yet we can still see clearly using the quiet reflection within to guide us.

We hope to see you soon in community!

Much Love,

Carley and John
